Day 28 - 36: Windy beaches

696/1200 km

After visiting Bilbao, Professor Conny continued her route towards Santiago de Compostela. The days after Bilbao were very windy and rainy, and Professor Conny often had to wear her rain poncho. The roads and paths she had to take during these days were not that interesting: mainly long roads along the coast, sometimes alternating with paths over the beaches and short climbs and descents.

During one of these rainy days, Professor Conny took a half-rest day. She walked a shorter route of about 16 kilometres and then gave her ankle a break for the afternoon. Professor Conny is trying to take good care of her ankle and to rest when needed so she will not get injured again…

Day 22 - 27: Professor Conny is back!

537/1200 km

Professor Conny is back on track. After a couple of weeks of rest to recover from her ankle injury, she got back to the place where she left the trail: Zumaia. From Zumaia she walked towards Ermita del Calvario, her stop for the night after 20 kilometres. To get there she had to pass the bridge of Deba, where an emergency bridge was placed on top of the old bridge when the original collapsed.

After a day of steep paths and extra kilometres due to a detour, Professor Conny celebrated that her ankle fully recovered and that she is back on track to raise money and awareness for Chromosome 6 research. Professor Conny is walking 1200 kilometres towards Santiago de Compostela to reach money for Chromosome 6 research. Read more about her walk and her goals in this blog post.

Day 19, 20, 21 and rest days: Professor Conny has an injury…

409/1200 km

Last week’s blog post contained a video compilation of the first 21 days of Professor Conny’s walk. If you have not seen it yet, see it here. In this blog post we update you on walking days 19, 20 and 21 and about Professor Conny’s ankle injury.

After Professor Conny arrived in Spain, she continued her walk from Irun, a city close to the France Spain border. From Irun she walked to San Sebastian, with a night stop in Pasajes de San Juan. The route included some very steep climbs and good views. The highest point, the Jaizkibel, is at 545 metres elevation.
