Last Monday Professor Conny left the Netherlands and travelled to France, to the starting point of her walk for Chromosome 6. Tuesday was the big day: she took the first steps of her 1200 kilometre walk. The starting point was Eiffel’s bridge in La Réole.

From La Réole she walked via Floudes to Basanne, where she visited a roman church. From there Professor Conny continued her walk to Pondaurat. Here she stayed with an elderly couple at a farm. They treated her well with an extensive meal including soup, salad, pizza, meat, french fries, cheese and, of course, wine! She had a cosy bedroom that night, with plenty of bed blankets. In the night she woke up because she was so warm.

The next morning Professor Conny had freshly baked croissants for breakfast. She walked from Pondaurat to Savignac in the morning, which was dry and with some rays of sun peeking through the clouds.

After her stop in Savignac, it started raining and did not stop raining for the rest of the day. Professor Conny had to wear her rain poncho for the first time on her walk. From Savignac she walked to Brouqueyran via Auros, visiting churches and enjoying the undulating landscape along the way.

Brouqeuyran was the final stop after 19 kilometres of walking. The pilgrims’ inn here is located in a castle. The guest rooms have an outdated interior, as if you are going back in time. The castle was very cold, and Professor Conny decided to go to bed early to stay warm.
